Xena is a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog trained in urban and wilderness search and rescue. She is an air-scent dog that specializes in forest and avalanche rescue operations.
Xena is a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, also called a "Swissy" - This breed was developed in Switzerland for protection, herding, and drafting. They are highly intelligent, family-oriented, and enjoy having a job or a task to bond with their owner. They specialize in hauling large loads and carts. The Greater Swiss is closely related to the Bernese Mountain Dog and is a component breed of the Saint Bernard and Rottweiler.
Dani adopted Xena as an 8 week old puppy in 2012 and they have been the best of friends ever since. Xena's favorite activities are practicing search and rescue scenarios, hiking and backpacking (a great companion for protection from bears, carrying a weighted backpack, and keeping warm through cuddles on chilly nights!), and most importantly she enjoys being around her pack.
This incredible pup is also the star of "Called to the Wild" series - airing December 2021 on National Geographic and Disney+.
